• Cavity-dwelling filamentous microorganisms accommodated in a valve-like organism from the uppermost Dengying Formation (Ediacaran) eastern Yunnan are reported for first time. Well-preserved filaments develop mycelial networks with abundant branching pattern. Probable saprophytic interaction between and is discovered. The Ediacaran–Cambrian transition, one of major turning points Earth’s history, characterized by an epoch-making change biosphere. In South China, late Ediacaran (ca. 551–538 Ma) important stratigraphic unit yielding trace fossils, tubular skeletal fossils some complex forms that represent possible bilateral animals. fossil-bearing strata hitherto known Jiucheng Member containing Jiangchuan Biota, together enigmatic cosmopolitan taxon Shaanxilithes.
